Engineering works postponed to get Albion fans to the game

Rail union calls five-day strike

Planned engineering works between Lewes and Eastbourne have been postponed tonight to allow fans to get to and from the Amex for Brighton and Hove Albion’s crunch game against Sheffield Wednesday.
Southern trains stock shot
The works were originally due to start at 10.15pm, with buses replacing trains on that stretch, and the usual matchday services disrupted as a result.

But this morning, Southern announced that it was postponing the works until after midnight, allowing a full matchday service to operate, with only the 12.05am London Victoria to Eastbourne service replaced by a bus in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

A spokesman for Brighton and Hove Albion said: “The club’s operations team has worked tirelessly with Southern over the weekend to provide additional trains, and Southern are confident of providing a full service prematch, and the following services after the match.”

Trains will now run as follows:

Falmer to Brighton: 21:36, 21:45, 22:02, 22:17, 22:22, 22:40, 22:50, 23:16, 23:21, 23:37, 23:48, 00:03 & 00:05.

Falmer to Lewes: 21:54, 22:05,22:15,22:35, 22:44, 22:53, 23:02, 23:16, 23:34, 23:36 & 00:05

The club has also arranged added significant extra parking capacity at Brighton Racecourse and there will be extra buses servicing that site to cope with additional demand.

A spokesman for Southern said: “We plan to run the football service this evening as planned, but there is always a chance that short notice alterations may occur, so the message for fans is to check before they travel with National Rail Enquiries.”
