The British Airways i360 held a fireworks and light show last night (Saturday 13 August) to celebrate the opening of Brighton’s latest tourist attraction.
The event had been due to take place when the seafront observation tower opened just over a week earlier but it had to be postponed because of high winds.
Some had tickets to see the display from the pod of the i360 while many more watched from the beach when the show got under way at about 10pm.
Here is a selection of pictures including some from Twitter focusing on the skeletal remains of the West Pier.

Come on it was utter rubbish lasted a few minutes way too much smoke, If this is the best Brighton can do then we are doomed.
Waste of time. Lasted 3 minutes. A lot of hype for nothing.
I agree it was rubbish, the smoke obscured the fireworks and it was all over in a few minutes. Complete waste of time and money.
I agree rushed away from another venue went on the 9.30 flight, the glass on the pod is dirty and allot of distortion through the glass. The photo booth is right in the way of people trying to get off the pod and use the viewing porthole that is set in the floor to view the workings of the lifting mechanism. The fireworks were poor and the sound system was rubbish. Very disappointed, I have viewed and had great interest with this project and was really expecting more on the launch night.

Beggars belief, you are given something for free but still moan, unbelievable
But it is not free. We pay for it by buying tickets for the i360. They advertised 15 minutes of light show and fireworks set to specially written music so that is what it should have been.
The flights are not free and the tickets for the “best view” were £5.00
