Five people have been arrested as Sussex Police targeted suspected drug dealers operating at The Level in Brighton, the force said today (Wednesday 17 August).
Four men and a boy were held near the skate park at The Level after most of them ran off as officers approached.
They were arrested on suspicion of having cannabis, heroin or cocaine and of being dealers.
In a statement the force said: “Police arrested four men and a boy suspected of drug dealing at The Level skate park in Brighton.
“The suspects were spotted by officers and detained near by after four of them ran off.
“A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin and cannabis, possession with intent to supply heroin and cannabis and obstructing a police officer’s right to carry out a search. He has been bailed until (Friday) 7 October for further inquiries.
“A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis, being concerned in the supply of cannabis and obstructing a police officer’s right to carry out a search.
“A man aged 20 was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cocaine and obstructing a police officer’s right to carry out a search.
“An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis and a 22-year-old man was detained on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class A drug.
“The arrests were made last month and the four men have been released on bail until (Friday) 2 September.”
Sergeant Andy Newman said: “We had received complaints and concerns from residents and users of the skate park at The Level about suspicious behaviour and suspected drug dealing.
“The area is especially busy at this time of the year during the summer school holiday.
“We will continue to target drug dealing in the area and arrest anyone who we suspect to be in possession of drugs or supplying them at The Level.”
I remember Councillor West promising that there would be permanently stationed Rangers at the level as part of the re development.
