Cat thieves caught on camera

Two cat kidnappers have been caught on camera enticing a much-loved family pet with food before picking him up and taking him away.

Mr Cheeky, who belongs to Ollie Wilson and Laura King at their home in Hove, was last seeing being taken from Brunswick Street East on Sunday, 4 December at 11.52pm.

Laura said: “Our neighbour found these images on his CCTV of our cat Mr Cheeky being kidnapped by a couple (we think in their 20s) at 11.52pm on Sunday 4th December. The man fusses Mr Cheeky, then the woman entices him with some food.

“They then pick him up and take him round the corner to the end of Brunswick Street East where it exits onto Waterloo Street. We suspect they may have left Bottom’s Rest pub at top of street before spotting Mr Cheeky sitting in yard.”

Sussex Police investigating Officer Zoe Ayres said: “Mr Cheeky is micro-chipped and is missed dearly by his owners. We are appealing to anyone who might recognise the man or the woman or have information as to the location of his whereabouts.

“I would also like to appeal to the people in the video as our main priority is to get Mr Cheeky back safe with his owners. He is probably very distressed being away from his normal surroundings and it is obviously very upsetting for his owners.”

Anyone with information is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting reference number 735 of 11/12.

Why are published videos, whether police or private, always out of focus and of extremely poor quality? If the camera really was this bad, there’d be no point having it.

If people really want to identify the scum seen taking this poor cat, “someone” should stop degrading the images, then perhaps someone might recognise the thieves.
