Brighton and Hove enjoys the Great Get Together in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox

A number of events have been taking place across Brighton and Hove as part of the Great Get Together in memory of the murdered MP Jo Cox.

One of her fellow Labour MPs, Peter Kyle, who has just been re-elected in Hove, went along to a couple of events – on Hove seafront and in the Palmeira Square Gardens.

Mr Kyle was a friend of Jo Cox and was often sat next to her in the chamber of the House of Commons.

He said on Twitter: “Visited two events today and left both feeling so proud of our community and, of course, Jo Cox.”

The aim of the Great Get Together is to remember the former MP for Batley and Spen’s community work by hosting neighbourhood parties where people can meet, mingle and socialise.

Part of the inspiration was a line from her maiden speech in Parliament in which she said: “We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.”
