Ten years ago the Albion finished their League 1 season needing to beat Stockport County to avoid relegation back to the bottom tier.
This Sunday (12 May) the club will be doing their best to to avoid defeat and trying to ensure Manchester City don’t win the Premier League title, if Liverpool can overcome Wolves at Anfield.
This type of occasion is unprecedented for Brighton and Hove Albion.
The club have never before been an instrumental part of a league championship decider. Not in the old Division 1 and certainly not in the Premier League.
Their previous experience of the last scheduled fixture, in the world’s greatest League , was a thrashing at Liverpool last May.
The message boards and forums suggest thousands of City fans will descend on Brighton and Hove this weekend in search of that elusive ticket. This,will in all honesty gain them entry to see their team lift the Premier League Trophy.
Although it should be noted that the Seagulls, as proved at Wolves and Arsenal recently, are a tough nut to crack at times.
Albion fans will need to be wary of the hundreds of £s that City fans appear willing to offer to gain entry to the Amex.
Ethically of course and based on club rules, most Albion season ticket holders cannot pass their ticket on to a third party in most circumstances, although debenture holders in the 1901 Club are able to do this legitimately.
The club will no doubt be aware of this potential ticket debacle and issue a statement in due course.
However, Brighton city centre could be overrun with City fans on Sunday afternoon especially around the station. All desperately trying to gain that golden ticket.
For all its culture and radical demonstration Brighton and Hove will have never have seen anything like this.
