A woman was rescued from a blaze in a block of flats in Hove this morning (Tuesday 24 October).
Six fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze in Kingston Close, Hangleton, off West Way.
The flat is in the early 1960s block above Hangleton Library.
The fire service said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, with the assistance of crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, were called at 5.01am today to an incident at Kingston Close, Hove.
“Six appliances were in attendance at the height of the incident and one female was rescued from a block of flats and passed into the care on the ambulance service.
“The Red Cross were on the scene to provide support.
“The area is cordoned off and a fire investigation will be done in due course.”
Kingston Close and part of West Way were closed while the emergency services were dealing with the fire.
At about 6am, the fire service tweeted: “We are currently attending an Incident in Kingston Close, Hove.
“If you live in the area keep windows and doors closed. If you are travelling please avoid the area.”
