Paedophile doctor found guilty of abusing boy, 8, from Hove

Hove Crown Court

A Brighton man has been spared a prison sentence after he tried to tried to arrange the “sexual exploitation of a child under 13”.

Sean Dunk, 50, of Craven Road, Brighton, admitted the charge, having used the Telegram messaging app to target a young Filipina girl.

Dunk was sentenced by Judge Joshua Swirsky at Hove Crown Court on Thursday 22 May after hearing mitigation from Dunk’s barrister, Hannah Hurley.

The judge sentenced Dunk to two years in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered him to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.

Judge Swirsky also ordered Dunk to complete up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity, to pay prosecution costs of £150 and a £187 victim surcharge.

Dunk was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same number of years.

The order is intended to restrict Dunk’s access to children, the internet, computers, social media and phones to reduce the risk of his reoffending.

Sussex Police said: “The charge related to messages exchanged on Telegram between Dunk and an adult in the Philippines purporting to offer children for sexual activity in exchange for payment.

“The message exchange started on Tuesday 28 May 2024. Dunk was identified from intelligence sources and was arrested in Brighton on Tuesday 16 July.”
