The popular Concorde 2 music venue located on Brighton seafront has announced that none other than indie icons Razorlight will be heading to their stage this December as part of the venue’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Tickets will be available from 10am on Thursday 13th November from HERE and the date of the concert is Saturday 6th December. Support will come from Girl In The Year Above.

Razorlight should need little or no introduction, as their music dominated a certain period of the early noughties, and were on the tip of the tongue of many an indie music fan at the time. Formed in 2002 by formidable lead singer/guitarist Johnny Borrell, they inhabited the same London breathing space as their friends, The Libertines (so much so, that Johnny was mistaken for one of their band members on a few occasions).

Razorlight released three very popular studio albums and enjoyed the successes of many hit singles, including the earworms ‘Somewhere Else’ (No.2) ‘In The Morning’ (No.3) and ‘America’ (No.1). The choruses of these particular hits are a good indication of the band’s ability to write catchy songs. After getting signed to Mercury Records, they released their breakthrough debut album in the form of ‘Up All Night’ (No.3 in 2004), which made everyone sit up and take notice. Their second self named ‘Razorlight’ album (No.1 2006) also did well and saw them tour the world as well as getting them shows with the likes of The Who, Queen (with Paul Rodgers) and The Rolling Stones along the way. After the release of the band’s third album (‘Slipway Fires’ No.4 2008) the band decided to call it a day.

But then in 2018 they dropped their ‘Olympus Sleeping’ long player and in April 2021 when Johnny Borrell, Andy Burrows, Björn Ågren and Carl Dalemo revealed they’d been back working together for the first time in over a decade, correcting the unsatisfactory conclusion to their original formation. Crucial to the group’s reunion was an emotional meeting between Borrell and Burrows near Johnny’s home in the Basque country in summer, 2020, which plays a pivotal part in the groups forthcoming ‘Fall To Pieces’ documentary, which premiered at the Raindance film festival. Watch the trailer HERE. Their fifth studio album, ‘Planet Nowhere’ was released in October 2024 to critical acclaim.
