Knife suspect in court as police seek another man seen with weapon

One man has appeared in court after an affray with knives and weapons that is understood to have involved about five people.

Another has been arrested and bailed and police have published a picture of another suspect who appears to have a baseball bat as they issued an appeal for the public’s help to identify him.

Sussex Police said: “Did you witness a group of men fighting with knives and weapons in Whitehawk on Wednesday 18 March?

“Around five men were reportedly involved in the incident, which happened just after 6pm near to Swanborough Place.

“It was then reported that some of those involved fled the scene by car, while others left on foot.

“Officers conducted inquiries, leading to the arrest of 21-year-old Frankie Wheeler, of Swanborough Drive, Brighton, on Thursday 19 March.

“He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court the following day, charged with affray and possessing a knife in a public place.

“He was then conditionally bailed ahead of his next hearing on Friday 17 April at Lewes Crown Court.

“As the investigation progressed, a second man, also 21 and from Brighton, was arrested on Thursday 26 March on suspicion of affray, possession of a weapon in a public place, possession of a class B drug and assaulting an emergency worker.

“He has since been bailed with conditions pending further inquiries.

“We would like to speak to the man seen in the images as our investigation continues.

“If you recognise him or have any information about the incident or those involved, we ask you to contact police. Anyone with relevant footage is also asked to come forward.

“You can do this online or by calling 101, quoting reference 1159 of 18/03.”

I hope these all get found and have adequate sentencing, it is scary to have these behaving like this especially near a children’s playground.
