A man has denied making false accusations about his ex-fiancee to her family and colleagues in a bid to make her return an engagement ring.
Jake Moriani, who has been charged under the name Magnus Moriani, split up with Elizabeth Reeves in July last year.
He appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court yesterday charged with harassment, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Prosecuting, Charlotte Frost said he had contacted her mother and the HR manager at the company she worked for, falsely accusing her of raping him.
The charge sheet says he: “engaged in a course of conduct by emailing, texting, face timing, emailing her work, phoning her work and contacting her mother with false allegations to obtain Elizabeth’s engagement ring back.
“There is a clear course of conduct because you used multiple fake emails and two phone numbers to threaten Elizabeth even after she blocked you which is unreasonable and oppressive.”
Defending, Stephen Paley asked for a full day’s listing for the trial, which is scheduled to take place in September.
Deputy district judge Adrian Turner remanded Moriani, 31, of London Road, Brighton, on the same bail conditions he was given by police, not to contact Ms Reeves, her family or her employer.
