Thousands of homes in Brighton were hit by a series of power cuts yesterday (Thursday 13 August).
The Round Hill area was affected from mid-afternoon and UK Power Networks said: “We became aware of the fault at 3.25pm.
“The cause is a fault with an underground cable in the Brighton BN2 3 and BN2 9 area.
“Our engineers were dispatched to site at 3.30pm.
“There have been several thousand properties affected by this power cut.”
At 4.25pm, UK Power Networks said: “The current status is that we’ve assigned engineers to locate and fix the issue.
“They are now on their way. The estimated timeframe to have power back on is 6.30pm to 7.30pm.”
Engineers fixed a problem with electrical equipment in Caledonian Road, Brighton, affecting the surrounding area late in the afternoon / early in the evening.
And then thousands of customers in Moulsecoomb and Bevendean lost their power supply in the evening.
UK Power Networks said that hundreds of customers had been in touch after the outage at 7.07pm.
The company said: “We restored a power cut at 8.03pm. An underground cable faulted on our high-voltage network, causing an area-wide power cut.”
The homes and firms affected were in the BN2 3, BN2 4 and BN2 6 postcodes.
