A Brighton and Hove Albion fan has died after falling ill as he was leaving the stadium following their 4-0 win over Aston Villa, the club said.
The 72-year-old became unwell as he was leaving to board a supporters’ club bus in the coach park.
Brighton said that, despite the best efforts of emergency services and club staff, the medical team were unable to save the man.
The club said in a statement: “South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics, St John’s Ambulance, Sussex Police, MB Medical Solutions, the club’s crowd doctor and our stewards worked together to ensure the individual was given the best possible care, including prolonged CPR at the scene.”
Club chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber said: “What should have been an ordinary and happy journey home ended in heart-breaking circumstances and we are all shocked and saddened by the loss of one of our supporters.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the gentleman’s family and friends.”
