A bus crashed into a dozen parked cars at Portslade Station this afternoon, injuring three motorists.

Boundary Road is closed, the level crossing is down, and trains stopped calling at the station until shortly before 4pm.

Lisa Putman, who saw the crash, said: “The gates were down. The 46 bus turned at the station and went into the back of two cars, then swerved and hit seven cars in the station car park.”

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Emergency services responded to a report of a collision involving a bus and 12 stationary cars near Portslade railway station in Station Road, Hove, at about 2pm on 1 September.

“Three motorists were injured. A woman was taken to hospital to be treated while two men were treated at the scene.

“The bus is believed to have collided with a car before colliding with parked cars in Portslade railway station car park.

“Police are appealing for witnesses, and anyone with dashcam footage, to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting serial 697 of 1/9.”

A spokesman for Govia Thameslink Railway, which owns the station and the carpark, said: “Portslade Station is closed while emergency services deal with an incident at the front of the station.

“We’re sorry to Southern customers who are affected.”

Matt Ashton, managing director for Brighton and Hove Buses, said: “An incident occurred today at Portslade Station and is currently being investigated.”
