A former charity furniture shop is set to be divided into three units.
British Heart Foundation has given up its furniture showroom on London Road, and is set to close its doors for the last time next month.
Now the landlords say they have two tenants lined up to move in – both of whom want smaller shops.
LCP Properties is asking permission to subdivide the unit – part of the redevelopment of the former Co Op department store – into three.
In a planning application to Brighton and Hove City Council, its agent Alder King planning consultants say: “British Heart Foundation currently occupy the site but have confirmed that they are vacating the site in October 2026.
“The marketing undertaken has not identified any occupiers for the unit as a whole. The applicant has had offers from two occupiers for2two of the sub-divided units and has got to a stage where contracts have been exchanged with one of them.
“The proposal would enable the floorspace to be occupied and avoid a long term vacancy void in the town centre. It would help maintain an active commercial frontage and support the vitality and viability of London Road Town Centre.”
