A mini rammed into two police cars and smashed into eight parked vehicles in a bid to escape the long arm of the law last night.
The drama unfolded after police were told a drunk man was shouting abuse at members of the public from a car in Lewes Road at about 4.50pm.
Officers looked for the car, but couldn’t find it immediately – however, a couple of hours later they found it in Union Road, by The Level.
In a statement, Sussex Police said: “Police attempted to engage with the man, however he failed to comply with instructions and drove away from the scene.
“Officers pursued the car to Morley Street, where it was driven the wrong way down the road and collided with eight parked vehicles.
“Tactics were used to bring the vehicle to a complete stop and a 41-year-old man was detained.
“He has since been taken to hospital for treatment, and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, failing to stop, and breaching a court injunction.
“No other injuries have been reported.”
