Ocean Film Festival World Tour – Preview

Wednesday October 7, 7.30pm

Injured sea lions, octogenarian surfers and an incredible adventure across the Pacific on homemade rafts – this years Ocean Film Festival World Tour features an eclectic selection of ocean-themed shorts and is coming to Brighton this October.

The festival, produced by the same team behind the Banff Mountain Film Festival, celebrates the ocean from all angles, above and beneath the surf, with all films telling stories which connect humanity to the ocean.

Among the picks are The Raftsmen, which tells the tale of 12 adventurers who, 50 years ago, set sail on homemade rafts across the Pacific Ocean. Featuring previously unseen footage, the survivors tell their incredible story of sharks, storms, starvation and survival.

Granny Grommets refers to a group of 80+ year-olds who are reclaiming the word Grommet (a surfing newbie) and making it their mission to hit the surf once a week, despite the concerns of their worried families.

And Tides of Life follows entrepreneur Richard Tesoro as he opens Uruguay’s first rescue and rehab for injured penguins, sea lions, otters and a multitude of other marine mammals in need.

UK tour director, Nell Teasdale, explained: “As we head into our 13th year, the Ocean Film Festival World Tour remains a celebration of the ocean in all its beauty, power and vulnerability.”

“Each film in the 2026 programme will offer something special, whether it’s extraordinary adventure, breathtaking marine life or people dedicating their lives to protecting the sea. We can’t wait to bring this year’s line-up to audiences around the UK.”

Details: Ocean Film Festival World Tour on October 7, 7.30pm

Venue: Brighton Dome Concert Hall, Church Street, Brighton, BN1 1UE
