Awesome Brighton band DITZ release first physical record

It’s official! DITZ have most certainly arrived! The Brighton quintet consisting of Cal (vocals), Anton (guitar), Caleb (bass), Sam (drums) and Jack (guitar), drop their first ever actual record tomorrow (3rd July 2020) on Alcopop! Records.

In celebration of this, the fast-rising noise-rock band (that the Brighton & Hove News have been championing for the past few years) are pleased to reveal a brand new video for their latest single ‘Role Model’, which is out now on all good DSPs.

New DITZ single ‘Role Model’

Commenting on the video, the band say: “The birth of this track and everything associated with it has been an experiment for us. We recorded it in Leeds, away from our usual studio and producer in Brighton. The video was made by our usual collaborator Jay Bartlett during lockdown. We took a hands off approach and gave him very few cues. It gave us an opportunity to react the same way a fan might on first viewing. In giving him that freedom I feel like we gained some freedom of our own.”

On the message of the song, vocalist Cal explains: “‘Role Model’ is about peer envy, which I think is something that most artists suffer from. It’s a horrible trait that stops you from being happy for other people and leaves you with a skewed perspective of what you’re making and its original goals. Sitting back from what you’ve made is the only way to see it the way you’ve intended.”

Picking up praise from Loud & Quiet, So Young Magazine, DORK, Gigwise, DRAB Magazine and more—alongside an addition to Spotify’s Alt. Rocked. playlist—the track is the latest to be taken from their debut EP, ‘5 Songs’, released on 12” vinyl via Alcopop! Records on 3rd July 2020.

The collection will be the band’s first physical record and also includes previously-released singles ‘Seeking Arrangement’ (Permanent Creeps), ‘Gayboy’ and ‘Total 90’, as well as their limited edition cover of Peaches hit single ‘F*ck The Pain Away’, previously only released on a decomposing peach.

The record will be available on luxuriant pink and black 12” vinyl, limited to 500 and never to be repressed in the pink. Preorder now: www.ilovealcopop.co.uk or from your local Brighton record shops.

Shortly before lockdown the band stormed their way into the Glastonbury 2020 Emerging Talent Long List and are steadily gaining pace at radio with support from BBC Radio One, BBC 6music and Radio X, with their no-holds-barred, hardcore-infused approach to post-punk setting them wide apart from their contemporaries.

Since their inception, DITZ have been anything but predictable. The quintet have released music irregularly, starting with a three-track EP in 2016 and then following on with a series of singles beginning in 2018.

After the release of the EP, the band played constantly in their hometown (Brighton) and in London, honing their craft and growing together as a unit, waiting almost two years before hitting the studio again to record their follow-up, ‘Seeking Arrangement‘. The track attracted the attention of the UK’s independent press with features and praise coming from DIY, Loud & Quiet, and So Young Magazine, and DITZ followed up with ‘Gayboy‘, showing a more serious side as they explored the self-perpetuating anger of bigotry.

DITZ released their ‘Total 90’ single at the tail-end of 2019 (their first for new label Alcopop! Records) picking up plays from BBC Radio One, BBC 6music, and scoring an A List addition at Amazing Radio (hitting #2 in the AR chart), an evening playlist addition at Radio X new music man John Kennedy, as well as support from The iNewspaper, The Line of Best Fit, DORK Magazine, So Young Magazine, Come Play With Me, VISIONS and more.

The band are most well known for an erratic live show influenced by the hardcore punk and noise rock of the 80s and 90s, which sets them sharply apart from their peers in the UK post-punk scene. As a result, the music the band produce is often obnoxious and urgent, but with an acute sense of dynamic. Vast arrays of guitar effects infuse their punk sound with a more experimental approach, which reaches its freeform apex at the end of the band’s live sets.
