Dozens of churches are to be added to the English Heritage at risk register which is due to be published tomorrow (Wednesday 30 June).
At least two Brighton and Hove churches could be among those included.
The two are the Holy Trinity Church in Blatchington Road, Hove, and St Peter’s Church in Brighton.
Declining formal religious worship is one of the reasons behind the trend.
The report also highlights the way in which, at some churches, the heroic efforts of a modest congregation help to stave off closure
Five secular sites in the city are already on the Heritage at Risk Register.
They include
- Marlborough House in Old Steine, Brighton
- The stables at Stanmer House in Stanmer Park, Brighton
- The West Pier in Brighton
- A Georgian mews building behind 14 Brunswick Square, Hove
