Places in the next Brighton Half Marathon are selling out in record time, the organisers said today (Tuesday 18 September).
More people are volunteering to help too in the race which will be held on Sunday 17 February .
The organisers said that they were issuing a last call for anyone who hadn’t registered yet.
They said: “Places to the race have been selling faster than ever before in previous years with people not wanting to miss out on securing their place in this popular seafront race.
“Inspired by the Games this year and a record year for sport in general, the Brighton Half Marathon organisers have also seen an increased interest in people wanting to get involved and volunteer in order to contribute to the successful running of the event.
“After introducing a new flatter faster route and new branding for the 2011 Brighton Half Marathon, the race sold out for the first time in 21 years by December 2010 at the new capacity of 8,000 places.
“The 2012 race saw an increase to 10,500 places with a sell out achieved by November 2011.
“Capacity for the 2013 race has been kept at 10,500 places and predictions are forecasting a sell out by October this year.
“Last Sunday saw a record number of registrations after the Great North Run with over 450 places sold in one day.”
They added that the race, in its 23rd year, was not only one of the longest established and most popular seafront road race events in the country but also the first major half marathon of the new year, perfectly suited as a warm up for all the spring marathons.
Partners confirmed so far for 2013 include Brooks, Sweatshop, Garmin, Lucozade, the Seattle Hotel, Visit Brighton, Brighton and Hove City Council, Studio57 Clinic and Virgin Money Giving.
