Pizza chain applies for 3am licence to deliver

Pizza chain applies for 3am licence to deliver

A pizza chain has applied for a late licence to be able to deliver until 3am in the student heart of Brighton.

The Pizza Hut branch, in Lewes Road, Brighton, is currently open until 11pm each day.

The operator said that it would continue to close its premises to the public at 11am if it were granted a late-night refreshment licence.

But franchise holder Inayya Corp, based in Slough, wants to stay open for deliveries from 11pm on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 3am.

Inayya Corp’s application did not include the sale of alcoholic drinks and was described as a “new restaurant licence”.

Lewes Road is in a busy locality where Brighton and Hove City Council restricts new late-night takeaways to try to reduce the risk of people gathering in a high-crime area.

Members of a council licensing panel hearing in January for a nearby premises were told that dozens of violent crimes had been recorded in the immediate neighbourhood.

Sussex Police also said that there had been concerning number of public order offences and incidents of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour.

To view and comment on the application, visit the licensing portal on the council’s website and search for 1445/3/2024/01630/LAPREN.

Pizza Express was contacted for comment.

11pm is quite late enough, in a residential area. It may be where lots of students live, but thousands of homes in the area are occupied by families and the elderly. If you want a pizza at 3am I suggest you find somewhere in the city centre.

3am Pizza licence ???? more like another sneaky avenue to a drinks late permit, the number of “late” licences should be reduced not added to, or do people not work day shifts any more ?? just another excuse to make money regardless of the cost to local residents.

I wasn’t aware that Pizza Hut sold alcohol via its delivery services?

You”re probably correct, I know its no alcohol on take away but home delivery ?? although with most night noise they dont need any more drink, just the clowns on scooters until 3am is enough to cancel that idea.

The police always oppose licences by saying there are high crime levels. I don’t know whose fault that is . Maybe people eating pizza at 3 am

Although the shop itself may not be open after 11 pm the 3am deliveries mean even more noisy, badly maintained and poorly driven motorbikes roaring around the streets for most of the night. Despite Brighton councils repeated classification of the Lewes/London Road areas as “Student areas” there are still working people living here who need to get some sleep.
According to the article “dozens of violent crimes had been recorded in the immediate neighbourhood and Sussex Police also said that there had been a concerning number of public order offences and incidents of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour” is it just a co-incidence that it is also a “Student” area? Or is that areas flooded with a transient population (the so-called co-living development on Melbourne street will only exacerbate the problem) will attract anti-social behaviour.

To me, that raises a concern about moped riders. Frequently they drive around with L plates and make driving errors and judgements that are dangerous, which in my opinion is down to their lack of training. Personally, I would be keen to disallow any business use whilst using L plates as a potential mitigation.
