A man has been arrested after another man was left with a serious hand injury after a knife attack at the racecourse.

Sussex Police said: “On Thursday 13 March at around 5pm, it was reported that a man was injured with a knife in the car park of Brighton Racecourse.

“The victim, 26, from Brighton, attended hospital suffering a serious hand injury but has since been discharged.

“The following morning at around 11am, officers conducted an arrest attempt in connection with the incident and stopped a taxi in Eaton Road, Hove.

“One passenger, a 25-year-old man, from Hove, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent.

“Officers also arrested a second passenger, not believed to be linked to the incident at Brighton Racecourse.

“Oren South, 23, of Stanstead Crescent, in Brighton, was charged that evening with two counts of possessing a weapon in a public place and with possession of a class B drug.

“He is set to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 10 April.

“The 25-year-old was bailed with strict conditions while further inquiries take place.

“If you have information concerning the incident on Thursday 13 March, we ask that you make a report to police.

“This can be done online or by calling 101, quoting reference 346 of 14/03.”
