Bus shortage leaves students stranded

A pedestrian has been seriously injured in a collision with a 5A bus in Brighton today (Monday 3 November).

The accident happened just south of St Peter’s Church shortly before midday.

The road was cordoned off and closed immediately afterwards and paramedics took the injured man to hospital.

The bus was understood to have been heading south at the time of the accident, on its way from Patcham to Hangelton.

Sussex Police said: “Emergency services were called to the scene of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian in York Place, Brighton, today (3 November) at around midday.

“One man has been taken to hospital to be treated for a serious injury.

“No arrests have been made.

“A temporary road closure was in place while emergency services were on the scene.

“This has now been lifted.

“Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision and encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant information such as CCTV, mobile, or dashcam footage to report it to us by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting serial 528 of 03/11.”

Brighton and Hove Buses operations director Gordon Frost said: “This morning, an incident occurred involving a pedestrian who entered the roadway and came into contact with a bus.

“Emergency services responded swiftly and the individual received medical attention at the scene within minutes.

“We are working with the police as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
