Fountain soap pranksters urged to stop

Pranksters repeatedly putting soap in the Mazda Fountain are costing taxpayers money and putting wildlife at risk, the council has warned.

The fountain in Victoria Gardens has had to be emptied at least twice over the last week because of the practical joke.

This picture was taken by Adam Moog on Friday, and posted on Reddit, where posters raised concerns over the impact on the park – and the council budget.

Brighton and Hove City Council’s cabinet member for recreation Alan Robins said: “This may seem fun at the time, but the reality is someone has to clear this up, which costs money and takes resources from elsewhere. It also isn’t great for the environment and local plant life.

“We really would encourage whoever is doing this to stop.”

Derek has a good point, it’s people having their kicks, same as festivals. Valley Gardens should be left alone by soap wielding pranksters and tent wielding festival organisers. It’s a green oasis.

Madeira Drive should be used for Events, Valley ‘Gardens’ should be left as is, what’s left of it.

How about Preston Park? 13 events this year – the wildlife and ecology is under unnaceptable pressure, as are the local residents.

It was funny the first time but don’t give the council another thing to waste our council tax money on when there are plenty of other things they couid be wasting it on (while keeping themselves on the gravy train)

Valley gardens “a green oasis.” Brighton Festival left it with hardly a blade of grass.
