Roedean is celebrating its best A level results in years, with almost three in every grades an A* or A.
The school said: “Roedean is celebrating its strongest A level results in a decade, with students achieving exceptional grades across a huge breadth of subjects and securing places at leading universities, specialist institutions and conservatoires in the UK and overseas.
“This year, 58 per cent of all A level grades were A* or A, making this Roedean’s best performance in a decade and its strongest since the current A level specifications were reformed.
“A* grades accounted for almost one in four results (23 per cent) while 81 per cent of grades were A* to B.
“Five students achieved a clean sweep of A* grades while 24 students, a quarter of the cohort, achieved all A* or A grades.”
Four students are due to study for a degree at Oxford or Cambridge universities, reading classics and English, psychological and behavioural sciences, history and politics and modern and medieval languages (Spanish and Italian).
Another student has won a scholarship to study at a university in America.
Roedean said that its strong performance in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) was particularly evident in this year’s university destinations, with 14 students securing places to study medicine or veterinary medicine.
Others will go on to study subjects including civil engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science and biotechnology while one student will undertake a helicopter aviation apprenticeship in Australia.
The school said: “The results buck the outdated stereotype that girls don’t do science, with Roedean students continuing to pursue some of the most demanding and rapidly evolving fields in higher education.
“At the same time, the cohort demonstrates that academic ambition is not confined to traditional university pathways. In a world increasingly shaped by AI, students are also choosing disciplines where creativity and human connection are central.
“Six students are progressing to specialist creative institutions and conservatoires to study subjects including voice, fashion, popular music, contemporary dance and musical sound design.
“The result is a cohort whose next steps range from the laboratory and lecture theatre to stage and studio, demonstrating the diversity of talent and ambition within the school.
“Roedean is also celebrating outstanding results in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with 22 of the 29 students achieving A* or A grades.
“The EPQ sees students undertaking sustained independent research, developing their own ideas and engaging deeply with subjects beyond the A level curriculum.
“The strength of the students is also reflected in the achievements that sit alongside their academic results.
“One student achieved three A* grades after having swum solo across the English Channel to France last summer.
“A second has combined three A* grades with two Performance Diplomas in piano and singing while a third girl achieved four A* grades alongside her RAD Advanced 2 ballet with distinction.
“The cohort also includes two sets of twins, who between them achieved six A* grades, eight As and one B, alongside two A grades in their EPQs.

“The girls do so much more than just their academic work and it is this co-curricular counterpoint which creates space for intellectual success.
“They have developed skills and confidence through their time at Roedean which will serve them exceptionally well in the next stage of their lives. I wish them all the very best for the future.”
