Brighton and Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hürzeler hopes that Yankuba Minteh recovers quickly from injury and then shows that he is fully committed to the club.
Hürzeler said that he wanted Minteh to be fit again and to become an important player for Brighton once more as he called for commitment from the winger amid interest from Liverpool.
The 22-year-old joined the Seagulls from Newcastle United in 2024 and has scored nine goals and provided eight assists in 66 Premier League appearances.
Minteh’s performances led Liverpool to bid for him twice, with the second offer in the region of £60 million.
The Reds raised their offer even though the Gambia international has yet to feature this season because of a leg injury.
Hürzeler said: “He’s doing rehab now. I said that it won’t be a short-term injury. It will take a few weeks so hopefully he can heal fast and become an important player for us again.”
The German coach has been speaking to Minteh about Liverpool’s interest during the player’s absence to understand his thoughts and to set out the club’s position.
Hürzeler said: “He’s a player from Brighton and at the moment there’s nothing else to say.
“I demand from him that, when this window is closed, he’s fully committed to this club.
“Of course, there are always dreams of players and there are some wishes from players.
“But, in the end, we always need to figure out what is best for the club and therefore we are in exchange with him.
“At the moment, he’s definitely a Brighton player. I can’t say anything more so let’s see what happens.”
