PREVIEW: 5 Short Plays, New Venture Theatre Studio

New Venture Theatre Studio kicks off October with an exciting selection of short plays from a variety of playwrights.
Audiences can look forward to shorts exploring first encounters, chance meetings between reacquainted ex-lovers and a group of strangers thrown together in the most mysterious circumstances.
Say Something Happened is one of Alan Bennett’s lesser known plays which director Jason Lever is bringing to the Brighton stage. A confrontation between old age and youth, the play first premiered on television in 1982, and its themes are still as relevant today, more than 40 years later.
Witty and fast-paced comedy Sure Thing (by David Ives, directed by Oliver Canavan) explores awkward and hilarious first encounters, it promises to be sharp, playful and full of twists.
What happens when four strangers wake up in a locked room and none of them can remember how or why they got there? Gripping psychological thriller The Candidate by Brent Holland is directed by Carolyn Chinn who intriguingly describes the play as “Twelve Angry Men meets Squid Game”.
An extract from The Fall by James Fritz is being directed by first-time director Sarah Tansey. One third of a trilogy of plays, it tells the story of two teenagers meeting in the empty house of a retired lawyer who get more than they bargained for.
The programme finishes with a performance of Catherine Medbh. The play, written by Declan Feenan and directed by Alice Healey, is described as a tender Irish comedy which follows a hesitant encounter between two former lovers.
