A man faces court charged with homophobic abuse at a football match in Brighton.
Alexander Bishop, 55, from Gloucestershire, was charged after Brighton and Hove Albion drew 1-1 with Leeds United last weekend.
Sussex Police said: “A man from Gloucestershire has been charged following an incident of homophobic abuse reported at the Brighton v Leeds football fixture on Saturday 5 September.
“A man was arrested in connection with the incident at the match which took place at the American Express Community Stadium.
“Later the same day, Alexander Bishop, 55, of Martlet Way, Brockworth, Gloucester, was charged with using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
“He is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 3 December.”
