Sainsbury's seeks late-night drinks licence for Hollingbury store

Supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has applied for a late-night alcohol licence for its latest Brighton convenience store.

The food giant wants permission to serve drinks from 6am to midnight at its planned new branch at the site of the disused Snipe pub in Carden Avenue, Hollingbury.

Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are among those being consulted for their views before Brighton and Hove City Council decides whether to grant the licence.

In August the council gave planning permission for the building to be demolished and replaced with the shop and three upstairs flats.

The new store will follow new Sainsbury’s branches in Portland Road, Hove, and Western Road and Preston Road, Brighton.

At the same time campaigners are continuing their fight against a new Tesco convenience store in Lewes Road, Brighton.

Tesco want to build it on the derelict former Esso petrol station which local residents had made into a community garden.
