Brighton’s CINECITY Film Festival opened last night (Thursday 14 November) at The Duke of York’s cinema.

The opening night film was Nebraska, the sixth film by Alexander Payne, the director of Sideways, About Schmidt and The Descendants.

Brighton band Esben and the Witch provide live accompaniment to surreal sci-fi La Antenna tonight (Friday 15 November).

Tomorrow (Saturday 16 November) bestselling American author Chuck Palahniuk will be answering questions at a sold out showing of Fight Club.

This year’s festival focuses on the work of surrealist Czech artist and filmmaker Jan Švankmajer.

A free tie-in exhibition, The Inner Life of Objects, at the Brighton University Gallery features sets, costumes, puppets, drawings and storyboards from Švankmajer’s films.

CINECITY is the south coast’s largest film festival. It has been running for eleven years.

The festival features a mixture of features and documentaries from national and international filmmakers.

It also promotes the work of Brighton filmmakers through its Brighton Screenings strand.

CINECITY runs until Sunday 1 December.
