Brighton University has opened a newly refurbished suite that provides nursing students with real-life scenarios to learn their skills.
The new Clinical Skills and Simulation Suite, costing £250,000, is based in Westlain House, Falmer.
Students using the suite are taught a range of nursing skills to assess and care for the acutely ill and deteriorating patient.
The students can be monitored and given instructions from a nearby studio as they learn through simulation exercises.
Professor Shirley Bach, head of school of nursing and midwifery, said: “The state-of-the-art suite is among the best equipped in the country.
“Students appreciate learning in real-life environments and the suite makes it easier for tutors to monitor their progress and to teach skills.
“’We have clinical suites on all teaching sites, in Hastings, Eastbourne and Falmer, and are about to spend a further £120,000 on a midwifery simulation suite at Eastbourne.”
The school currently is recruiting students for its adult nursing BSc (Hons) degree course starting on Monday 10 February.
Tuition fees are paid directly by the NHS and British students are also eligible to apply for a means-tested bursary and a maintenance loan.
The closing date for applications is Thursday 2 January.
