Talks were held this morning (Tuesday 8 April) to try to avert another strike by binmen in Brighton and Hove.
The GMB union said that industrial action was still possible almost a year after the last strike started.
Mark Turner, GMB Sussex branch secretary, said: “We’ve given them a number of solutions. And we’ve given them until midday Friday.”
Otherwise, he said, the union would ballot about whether to take industrial action.
Brighton and Hove City Council officials hope to put forward proposals over the coming few days.
Geoff Raw, the council’s executive director for environment, development and housing, said: “We met with representatives from the GMB union this morning about our refuse and recycling service.
“The union has raised a number of issues that staff have with the changed refuse and recycling rounds.
“We are working hard to reach a way forward on these issues.
“We recognise and appreciate the efforts of our staff to work with us and hope to clarify these issues swiftly.
“We have agreed with the GMB that we will respond on a number of issues tomorrow and on Friday.”
