Terrapin invades Preston Rock Garden

Terry the terrapin has taken up residence in the pond at the Preston Rock Garden, to the great amusement of visiting children.

The creature is the latest to have been dumped at the pond, and gardeners are now deciding what to do with him.

This picture was posted on Facebook by one of the gardeners, who said it was the biggest one he’d seen in the rockery pond.

He said: “We’ve had terrapins in the garden on and off for the 14 years I’ve been there and none have ever caused any problems.

“In fact, they’re often a great source of amusement to the children who visit.

“However, they are not an indigenous species and can eat fish – and can give a nasty nip if handled incorrectly.

“We are therefore taking expert advice on what to do with “Terry” the Terrapin. Whatever happens, we will have Terry’s and the gardens best interest at heart.”

The gardens are currently in full spring bloom and the waterfall has been started up.

Earlier this month, Choccywoccydoodah were filming in the gardens for their TV reality show.

Hi aratie, After taking expert advice, we’ve decided to leave her in there for the warmer months at least. She has lots of room, plenty of safe basking areas and lots of natural food in the form of water weed and insect larvae.
