The Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival has ended after five weeks of celebrating international flavours and the best of local produce.

The highlight this week has been the Foodies – the Brighton and Hove Foodie Awards Finals – held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole in King’s Road, Brighton.

More than 5,000 votes were cast in the quest to name the best restaurant, café, gastropub and food shop.

Terre à Terre in East Street, Brighton, picked up the prize for best restaurant.

The runners up were the Hotel du Vin in Ship Street, Brighton, and the Gingerman in Norfolk Square, Brighton.

However, another eaterie in the Gingerman Restaurant Group – the Ginger Pig in Hove Street, Hove – won the prize for best food pub.

The runners up were the Pub du Vin in Ship Street and the Sussex Yeoman in Guildford Road, Brighton.

Ground café in St George’s Road, Brighton, topped the best café category, with Bill’s in North Road, Brighton, and Temptation in Gardner Street, Brighton, finishing as runners up.

The best food shop category was won by Infinity Foods on the corner of North Road and Gardner Street in the North Laine, Brighton.

The runners up were Taj, which has outlets in Western Road, St James’s Street and Bedford Place in Brighton, and the Angel Food Bakery in Meeting House Lane, Brighton.

The food and drink festival – from Wednesday 1 September to Thursday 7 October – included more than 100 events.

These ranged from markets, picnics and street parties to foraging expeditions, food trails and urban vegetable growing competitions.

One supporter said: “The turnout at events like the World Market on Hove Lawns has shown the impressive appetite we have here for good food.

“I’m already hungry for next year’s festival. It’s one of the treats of the year and a real feast!”

Best Food Shop runner up wasn’t Taj; it was the Brighton Sausage Company, coming third.
