Two Brighton twins and a third man from Hove have been accused of running a postal horse race betting scam.
Paul and Gregory Spicer, 35, and Lee O’Donnell, 62, are said to have contacted people throughout the UK by post advertising a scheme to join a betting syndicate.
The leaflets and brochures they sent featured the names John ‘Jock’ McCracken, Robert Carter Racing, Paul Howell Racing, and J J Bloor Racing.
Paul Spicer, of Dyke Road, Brighton, Gregory Spicer, of The Drove, Brighotn and O’Donnell, of Eaton Gardens, Hove, have been charged with conspiracy to defraud.
The charge allege they conspired with each other and with others between 30 April 2003 and 13 February 2008 to defraud prospective and actual participants in various purported betting services and purported investment services by; making false claims in relation to the betting services; making false claims in relation to the investment services; and seeking and receiving payment in relation to the those services referred to.
The three men were committed for trial on separate dates last year and the trial is due to start at Lewes Crown Court on 26 April. They are on bail.
