Brighton and Hove Albion aim to out-gun the Gunners

Brighton and Hove Albion hope to out-gun the Gunners in their 4th round FA Cup tie at the Amex Stadium this afternoon (Sunday 25 January).

Lewis Dunk is available for the televised tie against Arsenal having served a one-match suspension.

Jake Forster-Caskey and Craig Mackail-Smith are also in contention for a place in Chris Hughton’s side having missed the midweek win over Ipswich through injury.

But Kazenga LuaLua, Dale Stephens and Greg Halford are all still out injured.

Arsenal, the current FA Cup holders, will be able to call on Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hecto Bellerin face a fitness test while injuries have ruled out Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby and Mathieu Debuchy.

Polish midfielder Krystian Bielik could make his debut for the North London side. Arsenal completed the signing of the 17-year-old during the week.

Arsene Wenger’s side won 2-0 at Manchester City last Sunday (18 January) and beat Stoke 3-0 in their previous match.

They knocked Brighton out of the Cup at the same stage two seasons ago, with Olivier Giroud scoring twice and Walcott grabbing a goal in a 3-2 victory. Ashley Barnes and Leo Ulloa replied for Albion.

The Seagulls have suffered seven defeats at the hands of Arsenal, including the side’s first ever top-flight match in 1979 when the visitors won 4-0 at a packed Goldstone.

Brighton have managed two wins and a draw in their ten meetings so far – all in 1982.

But the club will be buoyed by a comfortable 3-2 win over Ipswich on Wednesday (21 January) and the positive form since Hughton took over from Sami Hyypia. His record so far is three wins out of four.

The bookies unsurprisingly have the Gunners down for a win but thousands of Albion fans – whether or not they make it to Falmer this afternoon – will be rooting for the underdog.

Perhaps the Albion can emulate Bradford and Middlesbrough after they knocked out Chelsea and Manchester City yesterday respectively.

The match kicks off at 4pm and is being screened live on BT Sport 1.
