Commercial drivers in Brighton and Hove will be targeted in a push to keep people safe on the roads this week.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that it was holding three events along with Brighton and Hove City Council.
The events have been organised as part of the Chief Fire Officers Association’s Road Safety Week which starts today (Monday 8 June).
The fire services’s Brighton and Hove borough commander Mark Matthews said: “We will have a visible presence that will provide an opportunity to offer critical road safety advice.
“The aim is to raise road awareness and offer practical steps you can take to protect yourself, your loved ones as well as other road users.
“People know they shouldn’t speed, drive an unroadworthy vehicle and drive when tired or under the influence of drink or drugs.
“However, a large number of accidents that occur on our local roads are caused through distraction, such as using a mobile phone, and failing to look properly before performing a manoeuvre.
“If a change in behaviour reduces the number of people injured or killed on our roads then every road user should ensure they understand what it means to drive safely.
“So keep those closest to you safe and drop in and see us. Between us we may just save a life.”
Two events are being held today at
- Davigdor Road Industrial Estate, in Hove, from 10am until noon
- Freshfield Road Industrial Estate, in Brighton, from 2pm to 4pm
Another event is due to take place tomorrow (Tuesday 9 June) at the Portland Road Business Park, in Hove, from 10am until noon.
The fire service cited figures from the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership which indicated a rise in the number of collisions in Brighton and Hove last year.
