An exhibition opens tomorrow telling the story of The Jam from the band’s beginnings in Woking to its farewell performance at the Brighton Centre.
An array of unseen material and fan memorabilia is promised at Somerset House, in London, charting the journey of one of Britain’s most popular bands in the late 1970s and early ’80s.
The Jam – Paul Weller, Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton – had 18 consecutive top 40 singles, including Going Underground, Down in the Tube Station at Midnight and Town Called Malice.
The trio sold more than 14 million albums all around the world, recorded during their six years together. Their LPs included All Mod Cons and Setting Sons.
They played their final gig at a packed Brighton Centre on Saturday 11 December 1982.
All three members of the band have contributed material for the exhibition which opens at 10am tomorrow (Friday 26 June). It runs until Monday 31 August. Tickets cost £9.50 (concessions £7).
