Fans clash at Whitehawk game

Fans clash at Whitehawk game

Police have launched an investigation after fans violently clashed at Whitehawk’s home game against Wealdstone FC yesterday afternoon.

The brawl is believed to have started after Wealdstone fans were accused of making racist remarks towards the Whitehawk crowd at the Enclosed Ground in East Brighton Park.

It’s also been reported that the “Wealdstone Raider” – super-fan Gordon Hill who rose to internet infamy for his rants against Whitehawk in 2013 – was involved in the altercations.

One witness said that Brighton lads responded by assaulting the away fans, although it’s not clear exactly what happened at this stage. However, a video posted online shows punches apparently been thrown by both sides.

Whitehawk FC said last night on their Facebook page: “Whitehawk FC will be releasing a statement on the disgraceful behaviour displaced by a minority of Wealdstone fans today in due course.

“We would like to go on record and say that this does not in anyway reflect on Wealdstone FC. Many people in our club have gone on record and stated how we are influenced and inspired by how Wealdstone is run.

“Wealdstone are a great club with dedicated fans. What happened today is evident to all. We align with Wealdstone in condemning this type of behaviour.”

A police source said that investigations were currently at an early stage.

Whitehawk won the match 3-0.

A very flawed article- always get the views from both sides before printing a story that is clearly defamatory. Racist comments? None were made. Trust you will run a more balanced piece tomorrow
