Taxpayers in Brighton and Hove are being invited to inspect the council’s books in detail as the formal annual audit draws to a close.
Brighton and Hove City Council has opened its books for inspection for a 30-day period which started last Wednesday (15 June).
The public has until Tuesday 26 July “to inspect and make copies of the annual return and all books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts, etc, relating to them”.
Any interested person can find out more about the accounts for the year to Thursday 31 March at Bartholomew House, in Bartholomew Square, Brighton.
The inspection rights give voters and their representatives the right to question the auditor – Paul King from Ernst and Young – about the accounts and formally object to any item in them.
- East Sussex Fire Authority also opened its books yesterday (Monday 20 June) until Friday 29 July. The fire authority is based in Upperton Road, Eastbourne, and has the same auditor.
