Man wanted for return to prison has been spotted in Brighton

Jerome Anicet

The police have asked for help to put a man back behind bars although they are warning the public not to approach him.

Jerome Anicet, 30, has been spotted in Brighton, Sussex Police said, since the probation service sought his return to prison for breaching the terms of his release licence.

Anicet was released in June when he was part way through a five-and-a-half month prison sentence imposed at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 4 May.

He was jailed for 24 weeks for a spree of offences committed on four separate dates in a ten-day period in April.

He was sent down for 12 weeks for terrorising staff and patients in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

He went into A&E and shouted: “I’m going to kill you. I’m going to get a gun. I’m going to blow this place up.”

He was jailed for an additional 12 weeks for being drunk and disorderly at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

He was also ordered serve a concurrent 12-week prison sentence for being drunk and disorderly in Brighton and four weeks concurrent for two counts of bilking – making off without payment.

Both bilking incidents involved ordering food and drink worth about £60 – in Brighton as well as at the Frankie and Benny’s in Crawley. He was told to pay an £80 victim surcharge.

And he was ordered to serve two weeks concurrent for assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty.

In the past Anicet has been convicted of assault, threatening behaviour, being drunk and disorderly, making nuisance 999 calls and bilking.

He was jailed in May because, District Judge Christopher James said, the offences were so serious and induced fear in the two hospitals.

They were committed while he was out of prison on licence and in breach of a court order and were part of a pattern of persistent offending.

District Judge James also said that the offences were committed within a short time of his being jailed and that he was a significant nuisance under the influence of alcohol.

Sussex Police said yesterday (Wednesday 27 July): “Police in Mid Sussex and Brighton are searching for Jerome Anicet, who is wanted for recall to prison.

“Anicet is of mixed race, 5ft 11in, of stocky build with a shaven head, brown eyes and stubble. He is wanted by the Probation Service for return to prison having breached the terms of his release licence.

“He had been released in June this year part way through a five-and-a-half month sentence for common assault imposed at Brighton Magistrates’ Court in May.

“He has family in Haywards Heath but has been seen in Brighton since the prison recall was issued.

“Anyone who sees Anicet or knows where he may be is asked not to approach him but to contact the police via 999 or 101.”

Anyone with information can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

How come this waste of space did not get 5 years in jail, the courts are far to soft on scum bags like this, and that is why they commit crimes time and time again.
