Charity box thief caught on camera

This shocking footage shows the moment a thief shamelessly snatches two charity boxes and a man’s wallet from a shop counter in Hove.

The incident was caught on camera at Vega Express, in Sackville Road, at about 7.26pm on Saturday 10 September.

The distinctively-dressed suspect appears to walk in to the store and distract the worker in order to steal the items – concealing them under his right arm – before leaving moments later.

The charity boxes, belonging to St Mary and St Abraam Coptic Orthodox Church in Davigdor Road, Hove, contained approximately £10 in total, and the wallet contained about £120 in cash.

The CCTV footage has been released by Sussex Police with the support and the permission of the victim, a 20-year-old local man.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, about 6′ 1”, of slim build, with short black hair and facial hair. He was wearing a dark coloured trapper hat covering his ears, a red hooded top with a white zip, black shorts with a face on either leg, white socks and grey boots.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101, quoting serial 1375 of 10/09.

Alternatively, you can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
