Hangleton councillors raise more than £3,200 for the elderly

Councillors Dawn Barnett, Tony Janio and Nick Lewry

Three Hangleton and Knoll Ward councillors raised more than £3,200 for elderly residents at Christmas.

Councillors Dawn Barnett, Tony Janio and Nick Lewry said: “We managed to raise £3,230 thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals.

“For the last six years we have raised money to give a festive boost to some of the excellent local groups who work with and help older, often vulnerable, people in Hangleton and Knoll.

“Although Christmas and new year are a time of joy and celebration for many, for some it can be an incredibly sad and lonely time, particularly so for older residents who may have lost a partner.

“We used £1,155 of the money to help organise Christmas parties, including an entertainer, at Churchill House and on the Knoll estate.

“And we took a large group of people from the Get Together Club to the Hangleton Manor for a festive meal and drinks. A great time was had by all.

“In addition to the Christmas parties, the remainder of the money was distributed by St Richard’s Church to local initiatives for older people.”

These were

  • Short mat bowling £725
  • Forget-Me-Nots £300
  • 50+ Tai Chi £300
  • 50+ trips £300
  • Knoll Wednesday Pilates £250
  • The three councillors added: “In addition £200 was given to the wonderful volunteers, without whom most of these activities that take place at St Richard’s would not happen.

“We owe them a huge debt of gratitude.

“We would like to thank all those people who donated so generously to our fundraising appeal.”

Very good work councilors. You are a credit to the council. It is such generosity which means that you really are making a difference.
