Strikes by Southern drivers and guards blamed for loss at train company

A Southern train at Brighton Station

A man was attacked on a late-night train from Brighton to London, the British Transport Police (BTP) said today (Tuesday 30 May).

The BTP said: “Officers have launched an investigation following an assault on board a train from Brighton to London Victoria.

“The incident happened on (Friday) 7 April at 11.30pm.

“The victim was in the toilet when he heard a loud bang.

“He opened the door where he was confronted by two men.

“One of the men then went on to assault him, punching him in the head.

“Once off the train on the platform the man went to assault the victim further.

“The victim managed to run off and the man ran after him for a short while.”

Investigating officer PC Michael Gosling said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who was on the service at the time and may have witnessed the incident.

“Everyone has the right to travel on the rail network without fear or intimidation.

“This was an unprovoked attack which left the victim shaken by the assault. He was left with swelling to the side of his face and a cut lip.”

The BTP said: “The man is described as white, 6ft, medium build, aged in his early twenties, with short dark brown hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a dark blue hooded top.

“Anyone with any information can call British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or text 61016 citing reference 136 30/05/2017.”

This is one reason passengers NEED an on-board guard (or whatever you want to call him/her). These thugs can walk up and down a 12 coach train with impunity.
