The Brighton television production company which made the documentary Britain’s Fattest Man has been shortlisted for two awards.

The Royal Television Society has shortlisted the programme about 70 stone Paul Mason for its Best Single Documentary or Factual Programme award.

And the same production company – Electric Sky Productions, of Clifton Mews in Brighton – has been shortlisted in the Best Factual or Factual Entertainment Series category for First Love.

The series included Katie Derham, Lenny Henry, Janet Street-Porter, Mark Radcliffe and Meera Syal rediscovering the fondness that they once had for music before embarking on their current careers.

Britain’s Fattest Man was an hour-long documentary about Mr Mason, who required life-saving surgery to help him lose weight and enable him to walk again.

When it was broadcast in early January it was Channel 4’s most watched programme that day.

The results of Royal Television Society Awards will be announced at a ceremony at Winchester Guildhall on Friday (18 February).

The event will be hosted by BBC South television news presenter Sally Taylor and her ITV counterpart Fred Dinenage.
