Police aim to identify new sites in search for missing Portslade father

Detectives are trying to identify where else to search in the hunt for missing Portslade father Gary Hampson.

Sussex Police said that an initial scoping exercise was completed today with 16 sites having been searched.

Specialist search teams have been supporting the exercise, which has included underwater search, Sussex Police said.

The sites searched so far have been in the Cowfold, Henfield and Bolney area.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Riley, of the Major Crime Branch and who is leading the investigation, said earlier: “Our searching as a result of this initial scoping exercise will be completed today.

“Our investigation into the death of Gary Hampson continues and scoping exercises are taking place now for other areas that may be searched for his body.”

Mr Hampson, 42, of Old Shoreham Road, Portslade, disappeared in January after dropping his daughter home from school.

Sussex Police initially treated his disappearance as a missing person inquiry.

It became a murder investigation after a significant amount of Mr Hampson’s blood was found at the garage that he ran in Little Western Street, Brighton, by the Hove border.

Two Brighton men are currently being held on remand in relation to Mr Hampson’s disappearance.

Daniel Alexander, 61, of no fixed address, has been charged with murdering Mr Hampson.

Roy Bartup, 67, of Natal Road, Brighton, has been charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
