A man was stabbed in Hove early this morning.

The 28-year-old victim was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries. He has since undergone surgery.

Sussex Police said that a 32-year-old man had been arrested and was being held for questioning.

Officers were called to Harmsworth Crescent in Hangleton shortly after 5.30am where the victim was found bleeding from his injuries.

A forensic examination has since been carried out by scenes of crime officers.

Detective Inspector John Wallace said: “We are seeking witnesses from Harmsworth Crescent and the surrounding areas, including West Way, who may have seen or heard anything of the attack or anyone fleeing the scene.

“An address in Harmsworth Crescent and the area outside it are being forensically examined by scenes of crime officers.

“We are grateful for the patience of local residents over any temporary disruption this causes.

“This is a very serious assault and we are carrying out detailed inquiries to establish exactly what has happened.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
