Two men were attacked as they slept on the beach in Brighton early this morning.

The men, aged 27 and 28, were kicked by three men near the Fishing Museum at about 2.30am.

The 27-year-old suffered a serious eye injury and is being treated at a specialist eye hospital.

The 28-year-old was left with cuts and bruises to his head.

Detective Sergeant Cheryl Lewendon, of Brighton and Hove CID, said: “This was a nasty and unprovoked attack which saw one of the victims suffer a serious eye injury.

“There were other people on the beach at the time of the assault and we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the attack take place or who can identify the offenders.”

Nothing was stolen from the victims, who come from London.

The first offender was described as white, aged 20 to 22 years old, about 6ft tall and of skinny build.

He was wearing a baseball cap and a white and blue striped top.

The second offender was described as having dark skin, aged about 18 to 22 years old, about 5ft 7in tall and of stocky build.

No description is available of the third offender.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
