The new leader, opposition leader and committee chairs have been formally appointed at the annual meeting of Brighton and Hove City Council.
Labour councillor Nancy Platts became leader of the council as expected, with Green convenor Phélim Mac Cafferty taking over as the official leader of the opposition.
Councillor Steve Bell leads the Conservatives, now the smallest group on the council.
Green councillor Alex Phillips became mayor of Brighton and Hove, taking over from Conservative councillor Dee Simson, and supported by Labour councillor Alan Robins, who becomes the new deputy mayor.
Councillor Platts and Mac Cafferty will represent the city on the Greater Brighton Economic Board.
Councillor Platts will also chair the council’s powerful Policy, Resources and Growth Committee, with her predecessor as council leader, Daniel Yates, becoming her deputy and taking responsibility for finance.
Labour’s other two members of the committee are Councillor Nick Childs, the new chair of the Children, Young People and Skills Committee, and Councillor Clare Moonan, who now chairs the Health and Wellbeing Board.
Councillor Mac Cafferty will sit on the Policy, Resources and Growth Committee alongside his fellow Green councillor David Gibson, who speaks for his party on finance.
The other two Green members of the committee are deputy convenors Hannah Clare and Sue Shanks.
The two Conservatives on the committee are Councillor Bell, with his predecessor as Tory leader, Tony Janio, who now speaks for the party on finance.
Labour’s Nick Childs, the new chair of the Children, Young People and Skills Committee, will be supported by Labour councillor Kate Knight as his deputy.
The opposition leads will be Green councillor Elaine Hills and Conservative councillor Vanessa Brown.
Councillor Anne Pissaridou will chair the Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee, with fellow Labour councillor Gary Wilkinson as her deputy.
Green councillor Pete West and Conservative councillor Lee Wares will speak for the opposition parties.
Newly elected Labour councillor John Allcock will chair the Housing and New Homes Committee with Councillor Nikkie Brennan as his deputy.
Green councillor David Gibson and Conservative councillor Mary Mears will speak for the opposition parties.
Councillor Kate Knight will chair the Neighbourhoods, Inclusion, Communities and Equalities Committee with Councillor Clare Moonan as her deputy.
Green councillor Steph Powell and Conservative Dee Simson will speak for the opposition.
Councillor Alan Robins will continue to chair the Tourism, Development and Culture Committee, with Amanda Grimshaw as his deputy.
Green councillor Tom Druitt and Conservative councillor Robert Nemeth will spek for the opposition parties.
Green councillor Leo Littman will chair the Audit and Standards Committee and another Green councillor, Lizzie Deane, will chair the Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
Labour councillor Jackie O’Quinn will continue as chair of the Licensing Committee, with newly elected Councillor Chris Henry as her deputy.
Green councillor Lizzie Deane and Conservative councillor Nick Lewry will speak for the opposition.
Labour councillor Tracey Hill will chair the Planning Committee, with newly elected Councllor Theresa Fowler as her deputy.
Green councillor Leo Littman and Councillor Carol Theobald will speak for the opposition parties.
Labour councillor Clare Moonan will chair the Health and Wellbeing Board, with newly elected Councillor Carmen Appich as her deputy.
Green councillor Sue Shanks and newly elected Conservative councillor Samer Bagaeen will speak for the opposition parties.
Council meetings are open to the public and start from Tuesday 11 June.
