A masked man attempted to rob a bookmakers in Brighton but fled empty handed when he couldn’t open a locked door.

The man tried to get into the staff area of Ladbrokes in Elm Grove via a side door at about 9pm on Wednesday, March 10.

But when he couldn’t get in, he ran off with another man, up Elm Grove Hill.

The first man is described as white, of stocky build, 5’10” tall, and dressed in a dark blue and white winter jacket, dark grey or black jogging pants, and black gloves. He was also wearing black and white trainers and a balaclava.

The second man, who was seen by staff standing by the shop doorway, is described as white, wearing a dark jacket and hat, and of slimmer build.

Anyone who may have seen a man either entering or leaving the betting shop at the time of the attempted robbery, or who may have information relating to the incident, is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999, quoting serial 1552 of 10 March.
